If you buy a six foot folding snooker table you are getting one that is considered on quarter size, in other words it has one quarter the playing area of a full size snooker table. The play is basically the same and although these smaller tables are marketed for the younger crowd, there is no reason that the adults cannot have fun on them too. Just remember that once you get back on the full size table you are going to have to adjust the power of each shot since the distances on a folding pool table are a somewhat shorter.

These portable tables can be built in several different ways depending on how much space you have and how much money you want to spend. The cheaper versions can be a small mini table that is perfect for the kids and less than four feet long. These tables usually have an aluminium frame and MDF base, the balls are sized to fit the table and may only be 1 ½ inches in diameter. Some of the middle of the road tables, also called american pool tables, are 6 foot in length and have a fiberglass or wooden frame with full MDF bed and decent quality felt playing surface.

At the top end of the spectrum a high quality 6 foot folding pool table will feature a very nice solid wood frame of perhaps Beech and heavier duty MDF bed. One thing that is common on all folding pool tables except the mini is they all use 1 7/8 inch balls instead of the standard 2 1/16 inch balls used on the full size tables due to the reduced playing area. If you are willing to spend the money, you can find some folding tables that come with slate beds and pool table accessories. However for the price of one of these you might as well buy a proper free standing pool table.

When you are looking at fold up pool tables make sure you look at areas like hinges and joints. Even though you may not be paying as much as you would for a one piece table you do not want to waste your money on one that is not going to be stable or the hinges are going to give way as these are the weakest part of the whole design.
